Njau Hansou of the Spellbinders Spire trains new Spellblades to channel elemental infusions into their weapons, then dispatches them to investigate corruption tied to smugglers and cultists lurking around Night Harbor and the Tomb of the Last Wyrmsbane.
Walkthrough
Part 1
A new Spellblade begins with a torn note directing them to the Spellbinders Spire in Sageside, reached via the translocation devices beneath the wizards' tower. Jaffar Jhaym greets you warmly at the top but explains he isn't the one who trains new Spellblades personally — that duty falls to Njau Hansou, found in the training yard below, while a colleague named Petra Gyle handles the Inquisitors. Take the note back down to Njau to formally begin your instruction.
Njau's first lesson doubles as a favor to the Spire. He wants to test your ability to infuse your weapon with Flameburst, and at the same time gather intelligence on a strange corruption spreading through the region's undead. He hands over a bag and asks you to hunt skeletons outside the city walls, but only the remains scorched by your own fire damage — meaning you'll need to land a Singe hit or trigger the Flameburst proc — count toward the six Scorched Skeletal Remains needed. Combine them in the bag and return it to Njau, who's impressed enough to send the sealed bag onward to Buckmarr Gorstagg in the Concourse of Souls, out in the Necropolis District. Buckmarr examines the scorch pattern with a mix of professional curiosity and thinly veiled rivalry between his order and the Spire, then sends his own research findings back with you for Njau.
With Buckmarr's research delivered, Njau moves you onto a more serious assignment tied to the Inquisitors' ongoing surveillance of a smuggler camp along the coast of Shaded Dunes. He wants any unusual behavior from Petra's trainees reported directly to him, and tasks you with recovering a logbook the smugglers are believed to be hiding. The camp sits on the far southwest side of Shaded Dunes, across a small river, and its residents shift into wererats after dark. Loot the missing pages from an ashira raider and the damaged logbook itself from the smugglers' leader, Toma the Two-Faced, then combine the six pages into the logbook to complete it. Handing the finished Smuggler's Logbook to Njau earns a reward with a twist: a Wand of Spectral Sharding, which only reveals its purpose once you ask Njau about it directly.
Njau explains that the wand is meant for use against four specific ghosts haunting the depths of the Tomb of the Last Wyrmsbane at the excavation site west of the city. Striking each of High Marshal Fionna, Lieutenant Gregan Snyde, Jakob Geffrey, and Timmon Bell with the wand crystallizes a shard of their spectral essence for the Spire's research — Njau is explicit that the tomb is dangerous and this isn't a solo trip. Returning all four Crystallized Shards along with the wand completes your training. Njau sends you off to rest, enjoy the city, and take in a performance from the Azure Veils, rewarding your effort with the Spellbinders Blade Talisman as a mark of your induction into the Spire's ranks.
