The Shadow Knight is the dark, self-sustaining tank of Monsters and Memories — a plate-armored anti-hero who holds enemies with strikes and taunts, drains their life and strength to keep going, and bends lost souls to their will. The Early Access rework separated the class from the Necromancer: a single Soul Servant, summoned with Soul Remnants siphoned from enemies, replaces the undead pets, and new strikes, drains and auras make the knight more offense-focused.
Updated for Early Access · September 2026
- Life-draining spells and attacks that heal you while you tank
- The most damage of the three knights
- Grip of Shadow pulls enemies to you and interrupts them
- Aura of the Unholy boosts your threat and parry, and triggers an Unholy Pact when your health drops low
- Feign Death, corpse recovery, fears and a Soul Servant you can sacrifice for a barrier or damage shield
- Less mitigation than a Fighter
- No heals for others beyond your auras and Dark Embrace
- You juggle melee, spells and mana
- The pet is modest and needs a reagent
- Evil-leaning races start in the dark Underdocks, and some cities treat them coldly
Shadow Knight gameplay is tanking by feeding on the fight. Pull with Grip of Shadow, hold threat with Taunt and your strikes, and keep Smothering Shadows and Palpitation ticking — Shadow Strike extends your Shadows. Siphoning Slash and Soulrend heal you as you hit; landing Siphoning Slash near the end of an enemy’s life siphons a Soul Remnant for your Soul Servant. Theft of Vigor takes the enemy’s Strength and Stamina for yourself, and Lord of Shadows is your core self-buff.
For players who want a tank with more to do than a pure tank. If you like drains, a darker fantasy and a knight who can solo and recover corpses, the Shadow Knight is a solid choice. The planned Profane Study monster-hunting system will add more later.
