Overview

Master Chahaya Tam of the School of the Fourfold Path pushes new Monks through sparring matches and escalating trials of endurance, culminating in a test of will against a spectral shadow at a Shaded Dunes waterfall.

Part 1 — First Degree (Level 1)

  1. You start with a Humble Note inviting you to train at the School of the Fourfold Path in Twilight Harbor, directly south of Saltbreeze Park — look for elementals floating nearby to know you're close.
  2. Hand the note to Chahaya Tam. She welcomes you, hands you a Fourfold Sash to wear as a student, and sets your first trial: defeat three fellow students in sparring matches.
  3. Hail a student wearing the sash and say let's spar, then defeat three of them (you can return and try again later if one bests you first) to collect 3 Training Emblems.
  4. Hand the three emblems and your Fourfold Sash to Chahaya Tam. She affixes the first seal, rewarding you with the First Degree Fourfold Sash and improved standing with the School.

Part 2 — Second Degree (Level 3)

  1. Once you're level 3, hail Chahaya Tam again. She sends you out to defeat Ashira Scouts for 3 Ashira Scout Necklaces.
  2. Hand in the three necklaces and your First Degree Fourfold Sash to Chahaya Tam. She rewards you with the Second Degree Fourfold Sash.

Part 3 — Third Degree (Level 5)

  1. Hand your Second Degree Fourfold Sash to Chahaya Tam. She hands the belt back along with an Elixir of Mental Focus, a consumable you'll need for the final trial.
  2. Travel to Shaded Dunes (the zone west of Night Harbor) and find the waterfall near the western side, in an oasis area close to the Caves of Irem — follow the southern coast to the river in front of the dock, then head upstream to the waterfall.
  3. Climb over the rocky wall the waterfall pours from into the oasis, and stand on solid ground on the desert side (not the sea side) of the falls. Drink the Elixir of Mental Focus while standing there — you must be standing, not swimming, or the encounter will kill you.
  4. You'll be attacked by a "familiar shadow" that can cast Blind. Do not fight back — simply stand and let the attacks land; they're absorbed harmlessly. When the encounter ends (either by resisting through it or when the elixir's timer runs out), the shadow leaves behind a Worn Medallion.
  5. Hand the Worn Medallion and your Second Degree Fourfold Sash to Chahaya Tam to complete the quest and receive the Third Degree Fourfold Sash.
