Errol Shrewtender, guildmaster of the Seekers of the Lost Eye, oversees the training of new Shaman recruits arriving in Night Harbor.
A new Night Harbor Shaman starts out unsettled by a vivid dream of an endless wheat field beneath a blinding, unblinking eye, scrawled onto a hasty note that points toward the Seekers of the Lost Eye in Saltbreeze Park, near the city center below the Great Guild Hall. Errol Shrewtender reads the note and recognizes the dream for what it is: a sign of the gift you carry. He welcomes you as an initiate, hands over a guild tunic and an uncured spirit pouch, and sends you to Masoumeh Akhtar to begin preparing for your Becoming Ritual. The pouch doubles as a handy four-slot bag right up until you use it for the ritual, so it's worth holding onto for a while if extra storage matters more early on.
Masoumeh explains that the ritual requires a prepared base: moondew moss (found by searching an old ruined well west of Night Harbor's west gate at night), a fire beetle gland, and two bone chips from the undead. Combine all three inside the spirit pouch to form a Shaman's Fiery Base, then return it to her. She adds a few drops of a strange reagent to cure the pouch and sends you upstairs to her father, Eskander Akhtar, to continue the process once you've reached level 4.
Eskander's price for his knowledge is a single Harvallen Root, obtainable from ashira shaman in Shaded Dunes or occasionally from a shady peddler in the Night Market at night. Hand him both the root and your cured pouch together, and he grinds the root down into Purified Entheogenic Powder, warning that a proper Becoming Ritual is not something to undertake lightly. At level 8, bringing him the powder satisfies his part of the bargain, and he sends you back to Errol for the final stage.
Errol's last request is the most demanding: a duskglow pod, a pinch of grave dust, and a deepgloom mushroom, plus a written order for selenite crystal powder that must be fulfilled by Masoumeh's contact. Masoumeh directs the selenite order to Foreman Stonehammer at the old quarry in Sungreet Strand, who refuses to hand over the powder until you retrieve a battered canteen stolen from him by a local goblin sneak — hand in the canteen and the order together and he happily obliges. The other three reagents are scattered and dangerous to reach: the duskglow pod grows at a glowing oasis north of the Caves of Irem and can't be gathered before level 8, the deepgloom mushroom hides in a cave behind a waterfall (listen for a snippet of bard song nearby), and the grave dust waits in one of the side alcoves leading up toward the Bone Construct deep in the Tomb of the Last Wyrmsbane.
With every reagent in hand, Errol combines them into a Shimmering Slurry and a Blessed Spirit Pouch, which you then combine with the Purified Entheogenic Powder to create a Muddy Elixir of Becoming. But the ritual can't be finished without the guild's Ancient Painted Urn, stolen days earlier by a graverobber known only as Ariblast. Masoumeh has little to go on beyond the name, but the trail leads to the Tomb of the Last Wyrmsbane, where a creature called Ariblast the Wicked carries the missing urn. Recovering it and handing it to Errol alongside the elixir sets the final ritual in motion — he anoints the pouch, purifies the elixir once more, and hands both back as an Awakened Spirit Pouch and a Purified Elixir of Becoming. Drinking the elixir triggers the Becoming itself, a disorienting rush of fear and memory that ultimately settles into clarity, marking your full initiation as a Seeker of the Lost Eye and opening the road onward into Shaded Dunes.
